How To Use A Plunger

June 13, 2016

Always settle for the plunger before spilling chemicals down your drain. The plunger causes suction to force air through the pipes to push out the clog. You might think that a plunger is pretty self-explanatory in its operation, but there are some tricks that the homeowner must know when it comes to the plunger. These tricks will save you time and money.

1. Firstly, remove the drain stopper.

2. Cover the drain with a wet rag in order to create a better suction.

3. Cover the drain with the plunger and make sure that the water is covering the rubber cup at least half way before performing the action.

4. Be sure to stand upright over the plunger for the best form.

5. Start the pumping action of pushing the plunger down so it hits the drain and then back up quickly without breaking the seal. Focus on maintaining the suction in the rubber cup.

6. After some good pumps with the plunger, pull up to release the seal and see if any gunk made it up and out of the drain.

7. Remove gunk with gloves.
